Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!

Here is a look at what’s happening at Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church this week.

A Word for This Week

As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. As a result, many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men. But when the Jews in Thessalonica learned that Paul was preaching the word of God at Berea, some of them went there too, agitating the crowds and stirring them up. Those who escorted Paul brought him to Athens and then left with instructions for Silas and Timothy to join him as soon as possible.

Lord God, like the Bereans who received your message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day, teach us to hunger for your Word. As we gather this week for prayer, study, and worship, open our hearts to hear what you would speak to us. Give us the courage to hold fast to what is true and the faith to trust your promises even when the way is unclear. We pray in the name of Jesus, the living Word made flesh. Amen.

• Prayers for the Church, 6:00 PM — Lord, gather us as we come before you in prayer; send your Holy Spirit to guide and bless all who participate, and may our voices rise together as one.

Sunday, August 9

• Worship, 10:00 AM — Bless all who lead and all who gather this morning; may we be drawn closer to Christ through Word and Sacrament, and go out renewed to serve our neighbors.
• Fellowship, 11:00 AM — Thank and bless those who prepare and serve; may our time together around the table deepen our bonds as a community of faith.
