What Jesus Wanted Most: The Deepest Desires of Christ in John 17
John 17 gives us a rare window into the deepest desires of Christ — what Jesus prayed for His people the night before He died, and why it still matters.
Child of God
I've been a Christian all my life, but I didn't truly understand what that meant until I was in my 40s. Then, the love of Christ and the Holy Sprit transformed my life one evening...
Throughout my journey as a technical leader and executive, the values of stewardship, vocation, and integrity have remained central to my professional and personal life.
My path has been shaped not only by decades of engineering and leadership experience but also by a foundation laid in the Lutheran tradition during my youth. The grace received through baptism as an infant and the commitment made during my confirmation were pivotal milestones.
These early experiences instilled a sense of purpose and a "theology of the cross" perspective that views challenges as opportunities for growth and service. This upbringing profoundly influenced my decision to pursue a career in technology—viewing innovation as a way to solve complex problems and serve the neighbor—and ultimately guided my path as a Christian.

John 17 gives us a rare window into the deepest desires of Christ — what Jesus prayed for His people the night before He died, and why it still matters.
On the night before He died, Jesus didn't pray for Himself first — He prayed for you. John 17 is one of Scripture's most intimate passages, a window into what Christ truly wants for His people. Howard Young unpacks what Luther called a 'warm and hearty prayer' — and what it means that God, not you, is the one doing the sanctifying. This week at Triumphant Cross: worship Sunday at 10 AM, WELCA meeting Wednesday May 13, and a new reflection on Jesus as the Way, the Truth, and the Life from John 14.
Jesus declared 'I am the way, the truth, and the life' to confused disciples on the night of his arrest. What does that mean for us today?
