Rest for Weary Souls
We are the sheep; He is the Shepherd. Psalm 23 reminds us that restoration isn't a DIY project—it's a gift of Grace. Stop running and rest in the Promise today. 🌿✨

Read Today’s Verse: Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters. — Psalm 23:1-2
The Reflection
In Lent I often find myself searching for a sense of security amidst the “shadows of death” that permeate our world.
Psalm 23 is perhaps the most beloved poem in history, but its beauty often masks its radical theological bite. To say “The Lord is my shepherd” is to simultaneously admit that “I am the sheep.” An animal notoriously prone to wandering, defenseless against predators, and utterly dependent on its master for survival.
The quiet recognition that I cannot find my own way home, nor can I provide for my deepest spiritual hungers through my merit or effort.
The Gospel shines through the verbs of this text: He makes, He leads, He restores.
Notice that the sheep contributes nothing to the restoration of its soul. Standing before God is not a result of how well we follow the shepherd, but how well the Shepherd guards us.
Even when we wander into the dark valleys of sin, doubt, or grief, the Promise holds true: His goodness and mercy aren’t just following us; they are pursuing us.
As we move through Lent, let this Psalm remind you that your salvation is a finished work of Grace over Works. You do not have to earn the “still waters,” and you do not have to bribe the Shepherd for a seat at His table.
Christ, the Good Shepherd, has already laid down His life to ensure that the table is set and your cup is overflowing. We rest today not in our ability to be “good sheep,” but in His unbreakable promise to never let us go.
Pray with Me
Gracious God, our Good Shepherd, thank You for seeking us out when we are lost and for providing rest when we are weary.
Help us to trust in Your grace alone, knowing that our worth is found in Your love rather than our achievements.
Keep us beside Your still waters this day.
Amen.
