Love Anchored in Truth
Love isn’t a feeling we manufacture; it’s a response to the Grace we’ve already received. Standing firm in the Truth of the Word made flesh. ⚓️

Read Today’s Verse: 2 John: 1-13
And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you may walk in it. — 2 John 1:6
The Reflection
In the wake of the Transfiguration and as we journey deeper into this season, we find ourselves standing in the tension between truth and love.
John’s brief but potent letter reminds us that these are not two separate paths, but a single road paved by the promise of Christ. The “commandment” mentioned isn’t a new burden of law we must fulfill to earn God’s favor; rather, it is an invitation to abide in the reality of the Gospel we have heard from the beginning.
We try to walk the path on our own strength, only to find our legs failing. 2 John warns of “deceivers” who do not acknowledge Jesus coming in the flesh—a reminder that any spirituality that bypasses the physical sacrifice of Christ on the cross is a hollow one.
We cannot save ourselves through intellectual enlightenment or moral gymnastics; we are utterly dependent on the Word made flesh.
Here is the Promise: Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us from God the Father and from Jesus Christ. Notice the direction of that promise—it is “with us,” coming to us from the outside. We are saved from our sins by grace alone.
Our “walking in love” is not the cause of our salvation, but the joyful result of it. Because Christ has already secured our standing before the Father, we are free to love our neighbor without the frantic need to prove our own worthiness.
As we look toward the cross, we see the ultimate definition of love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son. In this truth, we find the “full joy” that John mentions.
The Gospel is the anchor that keeps us from being swept away by the changing tides of the world, grounding us in the eternal promise that we are claimed, forgiven, and beloved.
Pray with Me
Gracious Father, we thank You that Your love is not a goal we must reach, but a gift we have already received in Christ.
Forgive us when we try to replace Your grace with our own efforts or lose sight of Your truth.
Keep us steadfast in Your Word, that we may walk in love and reflect the light of Your Son to a world in need.
Amen.
