“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength....You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Mark 12:30-31
Our calling in Christ is to serve the world in need, and the heart of our ministry is our service. We work together on an ongoing basis to participate in service projects that offer support to people in our local area and in the world. We are always looking into new ways to be involved in our community and serve our neighbor.
Some of our ongoing projects include service to:
Mama Tina's Mission House, Dothan. Each month our congregational volunteers purchase, cook, transport, serve, and clean up a hot meal for about 100 disadvantaged children and adults.
Love INC. We are a member of a group of local Christian churches which provide monthly financial and prayer support to persons and families in need, through a controlled and monitored process.
Dothan 211 and the House of Ruth. We have an ongoing ladies sewing group that makes tote bags and assembles hygiene kits which are distributed to the homeless through Dothan 211 and to women and children through the House of Ruth.
Wiregrass Food Bank, Wiregrass Spay and Neuter Clinic, SOS Animal Shelter. We host free Bingo Nights three times a year, with all proceeds and donations going to these community programs on a rotating basis.
Local Support Groups. We make our building available for meetings and projects to several local organizations including:
- Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon
- Nurses' Support Group
- Sons of the American Revolution (SAR)
- Dothan Newcomers Club
- Professional Education Organization
- Small church congregations without facilities of their own
Our Community. We have a large Prayer Garden behind the parking lot with walking trails, park benches, and an outdoor sanctuary that we use for Easter Sunrise Service and other services throughout the year. The Garden is open to the public for exercise and meditation.
Lutheran Disaster Response. We make donations and provide volunteers to support healing and renewal of people in local, regional, national, and international areas whose lives have been disrupted by earthquake, flood, hurricane, tornado, and other disasters.
Lutheran World Relief. The ladies sewing group makes comfort and hygiene items which are distributed world-wide in areas of need.
