Do Lutherans believe in purgatory?

Scripture promises that those who die in faith rest immediately in the presence of Christ (Luke 23:43; Philippians 1:23). Lutherans hold that the full forgiveness won by Christ on the cross leaves nothing to be purged — the believer is declared righteous before God by faith alone.
