The Word of God is either written or spoken scriptures, proclomation of the Gospel and Sacrements.
The Word of God is Jesus Christ himself, who is the living Word of God (John 1:1, 14). The living Word comes to us and is made effective through three primary forms:
The Written Word: This is the Holy Scriptures (the Bible). It is the inspired and authoritative rule for all Christian teaching and life. While the Bible is the Word of God, it serves to point us to Christ, the living Word.
The Preached Word: This is the proclamation of the Gospel, typically delivered in a sermon. The spoken Word is not merely a testimony but is a powerful tool by which the Holy Spirit creates and strengthens faith.
The Sacramental Word: This is where the Word of God’s promise is attached to a visible element in the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion. Through these, the promise of God’s grace and forgiveness becomes tangible and is delivered directly to the believer.
